Team work guarantees successful results. People that experience a plastic surgery must know and strictly follow post-surgical cares, so they can achieve expected results.
Patients must be wanting to establish a clear, direct communication with their plastic surgeon and surgical team.
Post surgical cares are individualized. They can have some variations, depending on the patient and the surgical procedures performed.
Patients, by following their surgeon’s directions, can contribute to the success of any surgery, and help to avoid adverse results and/or complications.
These are some of the general recommendations a patient must follow:
- Patients must have their post-operation surrounded by a warm, calmed environment, which is initially offered by the medical institution where the patient gets his/her surgery, and after that, in the place where the patient lives or stays.
- Patients must follow the medical prescription provided by the specialist, and avoid to use any medication without a previous consultation to his/her doctor.
- If you use medications in a regular basis, you must inform your doctor before the surgery.
- If any change or discomfort occurs during the recovery process, tell it to your doctor as soon as possible.
- Patient is encouraged to take small walks since the first days, avoiding to be inactive during long time spans.
- On first days after surgery, patient will have liquid or soft diet, and after that, balanced diet with plenty of liquids is recommended.
- Avoid prolonged exposition to sunlight.
- Utilize post-op specially designed support/compression garments as recommended by your plastic surgeon.
- Depending on the surgical procedure and patient’s conditions, Hyperbaric Oxigen Chamber Therapy can help to shorten recovery time and to improve results.
- Patient MUST attend all medical control appointments.
- Sometimes, medicated creams can be used to help cicatrization and to reduce swelling. These creams must be used as indicated by your doctor.
- Avoid exercising during the first days after surgery. This can affect the recovery process and sometimes, sutures can fail.
- Usually, sexual activity can be safely restarted after a few days.
- In order to keep the results in the long term, patient must adopt a healthy lifestyle, including use of high SPF sunscreen, exercising, a balanced diet, and healthy habits which will reflect in a better image, wellbeing and beauty.
